Is this an above ground pool?

Accepted Answer

The pool can be used as an above-ground pool, in-ground pool, or partially in-ground pool. If the pool is fully above ground it is most easily installed. All it needs is to be properly connected to a 110v to 220v supply, and then filled with water. If the pool is fully in-ground, the equipment needs to be relocated from under the sun bench in the container to an above ground location. The plumbing and electrical connections are then extended to connect the two. See – What is involved in moving the equipment? If the pool is partially in-ground, and the equipment will always be above the water table, it may be possible to leave the equipment under the sun shelf – you will need some way to access it to clean the filters when needed. What base support does it need?

Accepted Answer

Every site and situation is different. The most important considerations are that: water can drain away from the bottom and sides of the container so it is not constantly damp, and, the base can fully support the weight of the pool. (i) Drainage — To allow water to percolate away from the bottom of the container, it must be placed on a 4 inch layer of compacted rock or coarse gravel, that is both wider and longer than the container and above the water table. Nothing that can hold water should be directly against the sides of the container – such as plants, mulch, grass clippings, sand, soil etc. An alternative is to have it on a concrete base that is above the water table, and which allows free air circulation between the bottom of the container and the entire base. (ii) Support — When filled, the pool, container and all equipment weighs about 12 tons. 12 tons spread across the whole base of the pool gives an average pressure of just less than 1 pound per square inch (PSI). For comparison, an average human in flat shoes is 2.5 PSI; a car exerts about 25 – 40 PSI on its tires; a semi truck can be up to 115 PSI; an ATV is 2 PSI; and an Abrams Tank is 15 PSI. While it may be that you have well compacted soil that could support the pool, you will still need the 4" of gravel for drainage. Remember that before placing any gravel or rock, all organic matter (like grass) should be removed as it will decompose and shrink over time. In-ground installation — No matter how far into the ground the pool is installed, the base must always have 4" of gravel that is above the water table. To ensure that there is no moisture held against the sides of the container, the backfill should also be done with gravel and not with soil or sand as these hold moisture.

Do you deliver to my backyard?

We do not deliver ReadyPools. There is a vast range of existing delivery options in place, and customers make use of that to get their pool delivered. A pool weighs 5,400 lbs or 2.7 tons, and is about the height of a car. As such they are well within the standard weights and height restrictions of most delivery options. We have had pools picked up by regular tow trucks, by people towing their own trailers, by 'hot shot' operators, and by semis. We have equipment to lift pools onto any trailer or vehicle. A 40 ft trailer can take 2 pools lengthwise. They can not be stacked two high. Securing the pool for transport is the hauler's responsibility – they always have straps and chains, and securing shipping containers is routine for them.

Question 4

What equipment is needed to get the pool into the final location?

This depends on the space available. If there is enough space to do so, the delivery vehicle may be able to drop it in place. If there is less space, wheels can be attached to one end of the container and a forklift or skid steer can maneuver it into place. If access is limited, it can be lifted into place over a home using a crane. The size of the crane required depends on the distance it has to reach – the empty pool weighs about 2.7 tons.

Can the pool be drained?

Yes. It has a drain plug at its lowest point. To empty the pool use the pump to get the water level down as far as it will go, and then finish by opening the drain.

What electrical supply is needed for the pool? Do I need an electrician?

Accepted Answer

We recommend that you get a qualified electrician to connect and ground your pool and make sure it is to local code. The electrical needs depend on what equipment you have. The basic pool has a 1.5 HP variable speed pump, and 2 microbrite lights drawing power. At full speed the pump can draw up to 12 amps, and the two lights draw ¼ amp between them. An iChlor Salt Cell draws another 1 amp to make its chlorine. A basic pool should therefore have a 110v supply protected by a 20 amp GFCI. If you have an 11 kW electric heater, you need a 240v supply with a 60 amp breaker to run everything.

Does it have a vacuum port?

Yes – it has a vacuum port and can run a vacuum.

Can the pump be isolated from the pool so the basket can be emptied?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Both the pump and the filter can be easily isolated for cleaning and maintenance. It is as simple as turning two valves.

What does the pool cost and what does it include?

Accepted Answer

It costs $36,995 for the pool and all equipment needed to operate it. It comes with: LED bubbler, pool light, skimmer, vacuum port, 2 returns, 2 suction lines. The pool has a pump, filter and all valves – installed and tested. It is controlled manually, or by an app that runs on android or iPhone.

What extras are available?

Handrail. Much appreciated by our older clientele. Pentair iChlor salt cell system. This uses salt water to generate chlorine to keep the water algae free. 11kW Raypac electric heater. This heats water electrically. It requires a 220v 60Amp supply. It raises the pool temp by 5 °F in 2 hours and 15 mins. Pentair 125K Gas Heater. This will raise the pool temp by 5 °F in about 40 minutes. Pentair 400K Gas Heater. This will raise the pool temp by 5 °F in about 12 minutes.

What algae handling system should I use?

There are many options for keeping algae at bay, and customers should choose the option they prefer. The simplest is to put chlorine tablets into the skimmer basket, or to treat the pool with liquid chlorine. We fit Salt Cell Chlorine generators to many pools as an extra – these create the chlorine needed and in the long term are the least expensive and easiest maintenance option. Many other options and combinations of systems exist – hydrogen peroxide, bromine, UV light, Silver generators.

We use Pentair equipment because, based on 40 years of pool building experience, it is by far the best – both in terms of quality and warranty. We could save ourselves a lot by using other equipment – but we think it would cost us more than that in the long run with unhappy customers. You get the best. We strive to have pools in stock and ready to ship within a few days of receiving payment. They are manufactured in Tampa, so delivery times need to be taken into account.

How long do they take to install?

Accepted Answer

Once the site is prepared for the pool, it is usually installed in a few hours. Depending on whether the pool will be above-ground or in-ground, the site will have to be prepared and a base created to put the pool on. A suitable electric supply also needs to be available. As soon as the pool is in place, it can be filled up. As soon as it is connected to a power supply it can be started up. That means that as soon as there is water in it, you can start swimming – even if you still need to put a deck area around it, build out an outdoor kitchen or dress its sides.

Is the container perfect?

No. The pools are made from used shipping containers. We use 'single use' containers – which means they have traveled (usually from Asia) to the USA with cargo onboard. These are the best containers one can get. We could potentially get brand new containers, but that would defeat the purpose of recycling them as well as significantly increase the cost. You can expect to see some minor scratches and dings. Some don't have any, but we can't promise that. See photos. These are NOT the battered containers that one often sees – don't get that idea. They are good looking containers.

What should I know about Corten Steel shipping containers?

Your ReadyPool shipping container is engineered with premium materials and industrial-grade protections to deliver outstanding rust resistance—far beyond what most people expect from steel. Your container is constructed from Corten steel (also called weathering steel), a high-strength alloy that forms a dense, self-healing patina when exposed to weather, protecting the underlying metal from further corrosion. New containers receive a zinc-rich epoxy primer for cathodic protection and a marine-grade topcoat formulated to withstand saltwater, UV radiation, and abrasion. We use one-trip containers—fresh from a single voyage with pristine structural integrity and factory coatings intact—giving your ReadyPool superior cosmetics and a service life of 20–50+ years in stationary use with basic maintenance. On land, with proper care, a well-maintained Corten container can easily serve 25–50+ years. To maximize longevity: place the container on compacted gravel or concrete that promotes drainage; keep the base area clear of debris; and periodically inspect and touch up paint as needed. Traditional zinc anodes attached to above-ground pools do not provide meaningful protection—the factory zinc-rich primer already delivers sacrificial protection across the entire surface. For partially or fully buried installations, additional buried sacrificial anodes can offer extra protection in moist soil. Grounding does not significantly mitigate rust—it is a critical safety feature but has no meaningful effect on corrosion. With proper site preparation, your ReadyPool is built to resist the major factors that cause rust and deliver decades of reliable, worry-free enjoyment.

Question 18

What options are there on the container?

We can paint the outside of the container for you, or you can do it yourself. It takes just under a gallon of paint to cover it fully. If we paint it, we send the leftover paint for touchups, as the straps and chains used to secure the containers in transit inevitably cause some scuff marks. Not many. The pools come painted in a medium gray color – along with a quart of paint that can be used for touch ups if needed after the installation. If the sides will be exposed and should you want a different color, they are easily painted with any exterior quality paint. They don't need an undercoat unless the color you are using requires one. While we like seeing the ribs that identify a container as such, some people like to dress the sides with tile, timber or stacked stone. If that is something you plan to do, we can affix rails to the outside of the container allowing the easy attachment of concrete board (to create a flat surface for tiles or stone) or timber slats. The ability to make the pool unique is part of the pleasure of owning a ReadyPool.

Does it come with waterline tiles?

No – that is not an option we currently offer.

Do you offer any colors for the pool?

Accepted Answer

At this time we do not. The ReadyPool comes in white – and here is why. UV rays from the sun tend to cause fading of color over the years – which is why the fiberglass on most boats is white. When you add in the chemicals (notably chlorine and acid) required to maintain proper pool chemistry, and allow for some occasional over enthusiasm in applying them (like using way too much shock treatment after letting the pool go green) the surface really gets tested. Colors can fade fast. Both sunlight and chlorine are potent bleaching agents, and when it comes to colored fiberglass they don't disappoint. In a previous life our main technician resurfaced in-ground fiberglass pools, and every non-white pool he was called out to resurface showed severe fading. Sometimes there would still be some lingering color in parts of the pool that were shaded and above the waterline, but the parts below the waterline and in direct sun would be bleached. Pools could be resurfaced with any color – but never with a warranty. But apart from all that, white is a perfect color for a pool. If it's a blue sky day, the pool appears blue. If it's overcast, stormy and grey, the pool mirrors that. If the chemistry gets behind, one can instantly see and correct it before it develops into anything major. And if the interior is somehow damaged, it is quick and simple to repair and re-touch. Finally, in the event you really do want to change the pool color, and are prepared to re-coat it every few years, we can provide you with instructions on how to do it and what to use. As long as you follow the instructions you will not void the warranty of the underlying structure.

If I'm doing an in-ground pool do I put the container and everything into the ground?

Accepted Answer

Yes you do. The container serves several purposes. Primarily it keeps the fiberglass pool shell stable. It also protects the pipes and wiring, all of which are inside the container between the shell and the walls of the container. That means that wires and pipes are never stressed and so don't get damaged or loosened. The pipes and connections on fiberglass pools without this external reinforcement can suffer from leak inducing stress.

Is it possible to 'pop' a ReadyPool?

Accepted Answer

When a pool 'pops' it comes out of the ground by a little – or sometimes by a lot. Usually at least a few inches. It does it fast and without warning, which is why its called popping. Even though your ReadyPool weighs about 2.7 tons without water, if it were empty and placed in a lake it would float. That means it can pop. Just about any pool can pop. Even large concrete pools can, and do, pop if incorrectly handled. An empty pool is like a boat with a strange hull. Boats made of thick steel, and boats made of reinforced concrete, float. This is not an issue if the pool is above ground, and is not usually much of an issue if it is partially in-ground. They key thing is to know where the water table is. In most inland areas, well above sea level, it is usually many feet below the surface. In some places, like Davis Island in Tampa, it can often be just a few inches below the surface. The water table changes if affected by high tides, storm surges or flooding. There are maps that show the water table for most areas and these can be consulted. Your local pool building company will have a good idea of whether it is a concern in your location or not. Before installing your ReadyPool it would be prudent to dig a 5 foot deep hole to see if and when you hit water, and work with what you find. This is not something to be unduly concerned about. Pools are safely installed well below the water table very day around the world. When you dig out the ground to instal your pool you'll know if you hit water, and be able to handle it. As long as the pool is full, or mostly full, it is NOT going to pop. That usually only occurs when people rapidly pump all the water out of their pool without thinking about the water table, and without opening the drain plug. Fortunately, your ReadyPool can be installed and filled within hours – unlike concrete pool shells which can sit for weeks or months before being finished and filled. Finally, if you do drain your pool for maintenance or over the winter or whatever, always leave the drain plug out. That way if the water table does rise it will fill the pool to the level required to prevent it popping.

Question 23

Can I plumb accessories into my ReadyPool?

The majority of the plumbing is under the sunshelf, and there is ample space to fit additional equipment. If you have installed your pool in-ground, the additional equipment will go wherever you have the pump and filter installed.

Can I dive into my ReadyPool?

Accepted Answer

No! The pool is just under 4 feet deep and diving could result in serious injury. Don't allow anyone to do that. Even jumping off the sunshelf feet first can, depending on the size and weight of the person, cause severe jarring. The onus is on you to ensure that everyone is safe and accident free.

Question 25

Can I fit nets, hoops or harnesses to the pool?

These can all be fitted securely. The way to do it is to attach them to the outside of the container so that you do not make holes in the fiberglass shell. From the crest of one container rib to the valley of the rib next to it is about 1 ½ inches. Ensure you only drill into or screw things into the crests – and that you do not have anything going more than an inch into the container. That way you will stay clear of the pool shell and any pipes. Eyelets, brackets, rails or whatever can be securely attached to the container walls.
