Filter
Your ReadyPool comes equipped with a Pentair Sta-Rite System 2 Filtration filter.
This is a cartridge filter with 150 sq ft of filtration media. It is capable of filtering 10 times the amount of water than is in your pool.
With regular cleaning, and assuming a normal load of algae and detritus, it should last well over a year.
Allowing the pool to become very thick with algae, lots of leaves that are allowed to decompose in the pool, tons of sunscreen being used etc will shorten its useful life span. But even then it should last a long time.
It needs to be replaced when it’s not doing its job any more. You can get replacement filters at any pool store, or you can find them on Amazon. If you are looking online for one, search for “PLM 150 Filter.”
There is gauge on top of the filter and we suggest you use that as described in the manual below – otherwise you need to take the top of the filter off and visually inspect it which can be a chore. After cleaning the filter and starting the pump, take note of the pressure reading – when it is 10 psi more it’s time to clean it again.
CAUTIONS
Your filter is below the water level of the pool.
If you simply take the lid off, or open the purge valve on top of it, water will gush out due to gravity.
Before cleaning either the filter or the pump basket you need to do the following:
- Make sure the pump is off and will not come on again until you turn it on.
- Turn the black valve on the inlet line to the pump to the off position. (Pics 1 and 2)
- Turn the black valve on the outlet of the filter to the off position. (Pics 3 and 4)
- You will now have isolated the pump and filter and can work on them. There will still be water in them though, and the floor will get wet.
- At the bottom of the filter there is a drain plug. Open that and put it to one side. Water may gush out so be aware. (Pic 5)
- At the top of the filter is the air valve. With the plug removed (step 5), twist that gently and water will rapidly flow out of the filter. (Pic 6)
- Now you can proceed to remove the filter lid, and/or clean the pump filter.
- When all maintenance is done, and before you turn the pump back on, remember to do the following:
- Replace the drain plug on the bottom of the filter.
- Turn both of the valves you closed earlier to the on position.
- Turn the air valve on top of the filter until water comes out of it – which means the filter is now full of water – and then close it.
- Turn the pump on. It should prime and pump immediately. It may take a few seconds.
- When the pump is running, open the air valve on the filter again to let any air out.
If you use a pool service, please make sure they understand the above by showing them the valves and explaining the procedure. Usually they service in-ground pools where removing the plug and closing those valves is not necessary. While there are many fine, professional, pool service people about, they sometimes hire people that have little experience, or are just plain daft. Better to be sure they know how to handle the simple steps above.
